About Us Although we are not sure where the connection lies, the pub gets its name from Admiral Sir Charles John Napier 1786 -1860). He was a Scottish naval officer whose sixty years in the Royal Navy included service in the Napoleonic Wars, Syrian War and the Crimean War, and a period commanding the Portuguese navy in the Liberal Wars. An innovator concerned with the development of iron ships, and an advocate of humane reform in the Royal Navy, he was also active in politics as a Liberal Member of Parliament and was probably the naval officer most widely known to the public in the early Victorian Era. We are one of the most popular pubs in the Hanover area, which has quite a few, historically there was a pub or inn on nearly every street corner. We are also one of the oldest having been built around 1860. The pub is a treasure trove of historic and interesting memorabillia, collected and displayed over the years. |
